Chapter 23 - Where there is a Well...There is a Way

I went home and pondered my dilemma all weekend. I could not resolve myself to the idea that I would never be able to reach the box. I firmly believed that if I was meant to have it, I would. I just had to figure out how I would be able to get it. I needed a plan.

Drawing on my logical mind, I considered that I required two pieces of information. The first was to find out who had built the development. The second was to obtain blueprints of the sky-scraping condo structure. Luckily, I was able to pull on resources from my work to accomplish the task. I found out that Davidson Enterprises built and owned the building. However, since I was unfamiliar with reading blueprints, I spent the rest of the week engrossed in familiarizing myself with how to interpret them properly, so that I would not misread anything.

I did not need everything, only the plans for first floor and the basement. My focus quickly turned to the basement. I was able to determine the basics, such as load-bearing walls, footings, rebar and other load-bearing structures. Since I was unfamiliar with construction, my knowledge of what I was exactly reading, or trying to read, was limited. However, I did notice something that seemed peculiar. In the sketch for the basement, toward the back end of the plan, there was a void in the wall where the building bordered the river. It seemed that a little, hollow column was constructed in the basement for no apparent reason, not one that I could see anyway. I looked at the blueprints in reference to the map. While I certainly was not sure, I wondered if the well was incorporated into the building for Riverwell Wish Condos.

I decided that I would have to speak to someone from Davidson Enterprises if I was to have my suspicion confirmed or denied. I called and explained to the lady who answered that I was doing historical research on the city’s growth over the past fifty years, and would like to speak to the project leader for the condo development. The lady said she would ask about the project, and whether or not there was anyone who could speak to me about the construction of the premises. She told me someone would return my call. For the time being, I had to leave it in her hands. I did not mind doing that because I realized that either the well was saved and the box was resting quietly in the brick wall, or it was gone and the little room with the brick wall was cut off from the world. Of course, there was a third possibility. While I hoped it was not the case, I did realize that since my great grandfather had worked with “The Eye”, the box may no longer be in the well at all.

The lady from Davidson Enterprises called me back within two days.
